NEPAL NEWsKATHMANDU, JUL 21
The first touchscreen camera in the DSLR series from Canon has hit local stores. Primax International, the sole authorised distributor of Canon in Nepal, took the wraps off the much awaited camera, the Canon EOS 650D, last Sunday. This entry level DSLR camera is the successor to the popular Canon model the EOS 600 D. The camera was launched in Singapore on June 8.
According to Dinesh Agrawal, marketing manager at Primax International,
the camera has a good reputation in the domestic camera market, and the
newly introduced product has strengthened its line-up here. “We are
sure that the camera will appeal to camera enthusiasts because of its
fascinating features,” said Agrawal. The company aims to promote this
device among amateur photographers and those with a passion for
photography.
The company believes that the new product will help it to maintain the lead in the DSLR series. The company aims to sell 80-90 units of the EOS 605 D monthly.
The Canon EOS 650D comes with an 18-mega pixel CMOS sensor and powerful DIGIC five image processor. With these two technologies working in tandem, the EOS 650D offers high speed continuous shooting capabilities which can achieve up to 5.0 frames per second, and offer ISO speeds of up to 12,800 (expandable to 25,600), the company said. Its auto-focus system is quicker and precise, compared to other cameras of the same category. The camera has a three-inch touchscreen.
Primax International has stated that the camera, despite being an entry-level product, offers advanced features. The EOS 650 D keeps images in sharp focus with high ISO speeds of up to 6,400 in automatic mode. Camera enthusiasts can even manually set it up to 12,800. For producing better picture during the night time, the device offers a new handheld night scene mode to take night shots without the help of a tripod. “It achieves this by taking four shots in rapid succession, and then superimposes them to form a single perfectly sharp image,” the company said.
The camera has easy-to-use video snapshot editor, originally used in Canon Legria camcorders. The in-camera editor can re-order or delete clips in an album, without the need of a PC. Once arranged, these clips can be played back with background music just like a short film.
Primax International has offered the camera with two lens options. The Canon EOS 650D costs Rs 93,390 with a 1855 lens and Rs 119,990 with a 18135 lens. Apart from its exclusive stores situated at City Centre, Kamal Pokhari and Civil Mall, Sundhara in Kathmandu, the camera is available throughout the country from numerous retail stores.
