The Movie In My Mind

I sometimes remember people and places;
things that happened with familiar faces,
and I see this movie in my mind;
if only a screening I could find!

I see entire scenes replayed,
happening the exact same way.
I see credits at the start
with my friends and family playing the parts.

I listen to a favorite song,
and it helps the memories flow along.
I see each face smiling at the lens
to help their printed name make sense.

I play a soundtrack in my mind,
and know which song to play which time;
which time would accent which emotions;
how to put my picture in motion.

Oh, how I wish I could put it together
to make people understand me better;
make it come to life on tape,
so I could give it form and shape.

I'd like to project what's in my head
for the world before I'm dead.
Hopefully, I will find a way,
and watch my movie on screen someday.

Sydney’s famed Bondi Beach closed as sea turns blood red

The waters around Sydney, Australia turned red yesterday morning, causing some concern that there had been a shark attack and prompting the closure of three popular beaches in the area while officials investigated. After testing the water, the culprit in this pseudo-prophetic vision was identified — an algae known as Noctiluca scintillans, or 'Sea Sparkle'.

Similar to what happened in southern France a few months ago, the Noctiluca scintillans had a population explosion — also called 'a bloom' — as they went into a feeding frenzy on plankton and rapidly multiplied. According to the The Australian, a spokesman for the New South Wales Office of Water said that these blooms are often caused by an upwelling of colder, nutrient-rich water, and that they are common in the spring and fall, due to warmer waters and movement of ocean currents.

Although these algae blooms are a bit disturbing to look at and have an unpleasant smell, they aren't toxic and generally only represent a mild skin irritant, due to higher levels of ammonia excreted by the algae (yes, algae pee).

The blooms started to break up later in the day, allowing Bondi Beach to be reopened, and Dr. Fred Gurgel, a professor of marine biology at the University of Adelaide, told The Herald Sun "It should clear up in less than a week."

Before this bloom dissipates completely, the people of Sydney could be treated to an interesting show. The reason why Noctiluca scintillans is also called 'Sea Sparkle' is because it is bioluminescent. If the algae is disturbed, by a swimmer or a boat or even the waves or ocean currents, it can light up, producing a sparkling blue phosphorescent display for anyone nearby.

'कथा’ झरी फेरी दर्किन थाल्यो – दीप्स शाह

                                                आज फेरी त्यही झरीको रात छ..

भित्तामा झुण्डिरहेको घडीको एक तमासे टिक्-टिक् आवाज सङ्गै ल्यापटपको स्क्रिनमा घोत्लिरहेको छु । 

ओह ! धरररर्अर पानी दर्क्यो बाहिर । रात सुन्सान छ । 

झ्यालको फक्लेटोबाट हुत्तिएर दुइ-चार छिटा पानी म सम्मै आइपुगेको छ । 

मलाई एक्लै-एक्लै रुवाउन यो अन्धकार रातमा, उफ्फ्फ्फ यो दर्के झरीले मलाई जहिल्यै रुवाउँछ ।

 टिनको छानोमा बजारिएर झरेको बेफुर्सदी बलेसीको धारो, यात बारीमा मकैको पातबाट एकनासले आउने झरी सङ्गीतको कती मिठो सम्झना दिलाउँछ यो झरीले र सम्झनाको पाखोबारी छिचोल्दै कती उकुस-मुकुस, अतित बगेर जान्छ आँखाबाट । परदेशको झरीमा जेछ सब बिरानोपन छ, र त बाहिर आकाश रोइरहेछ, बादलको चित्कार सङ्गै, भित्र म रोइ रहेछु मौन मौन ,,, ।

झरीसंग गाँसिएका अनेक रमाइला नरमाइला घटना आँखामा एकै निमेषमा आइदिन्छन् । आमा ! तिमीलाई असाध्यै सम्झिन्छु हरबखत तर झरी परेको बेलामा डाँकै छोडेर रुन्छु । तिमी सम्झिन्छ्यौ अझै ! पक्कै सम्झेकी हौली, कतिपटक झरीको मौसममा म भिज्दै स्कुल जान्थेँ । कस्तो गरिबी थियो हगी ! म उस्तै मुर्ख थिएँ । खोलापारी सन्तेले कालो छाता ओढेको देखेर म कती रोएँ । तिमीले घरमा भएजति राम्रो र नयाँ प्लास्टीक ओढ्न दिँदा मैले रिसले च्यातचुत पारेर खोल्सीमा बगाइदिएको थिएँ । त्योपनि भर्खर किनेको युरिया मलको बोरामा आएको सबैभन्दा बाक्लो सेतो प्लास्टिक हगी ! तिमीले दुई मुड्की बजायौ तर म भिज्दै स्कुल गएँ । तीन रुपैयाँमा किनेको प्लास्टिक झोलामा किताब कपी ओते भयो । शरीर त पुरै निथ्रुक भिजेको हुन्थ्यो । दिनभरी यताउता टहल्दा अरु लुगा त कसो-कसो अख्रक्क पर्थ्यो, झरी र पसिना बसाउदै-गनाउँदै, तर दिनैभरी भित्री कट्टु सुक्दैनथ्यो । त्यो कुरा कि म बुझ्थेँ कि तिमी अनुमान नै गर्थ्यौर ? बेलुकी फेरी कपाल उखेल्थ्यौ अनी अगेनुको छेउमा बस् भनेर हपार्थ्यौ । अभाबका ति दिनहरुमा तिमीले पानी ओत्ने छाता किन्न सकिनौ तर ममताको छाताले संधै मलाई ढपक्क ढाकेर राख्थ्यौ आमा ! तर कती दिनसम्म म रिसाएर बोलिन तिमीसँग छाता नपाएको रिसमा । आज यो झरीको दर्काइमा, यो परदेशको शुन्य भित्तो हेर्दै तिमी सँग कुरा गर्दैछु आमा ! मलाई ढँटुवा नभन है !।

यो बिरानो माटोमा बस्न मलाई कहाँ पो रहर छ र ! यहाँ हरेक पाइलामा मन को परिन्छ । यो पराइ माटोहो आमा ! यो जतिसुकै बिशाल किन नहोस तर यसको फैलावट तिम्रो सानो पाठेघर जती पनी छैन आमा ! जसले अवर्णनिय अकल्पनिय पीडा सहेरै किन नहोस् चुपचाप मलाई स्थान दियौ । मलाई कुपुक्क पारेर च्यापेर राख्यौ । मलाई आफुमै अटायौ । यो माटोले त मलाई एक पलको लागि पनि सहंदैन, यदी मेरो पाखुरा र पिँडौला लुलो भयो भने । यहाँका मनहरुले एक निमेषको लागि पनि मलाई नियाल्न सक्दैनन् , यदी मेरो अनुहारमा योग्यताको झलक झल्किएन भने । यो तिम्रो जस्तो आँखाको दुनियाँ होइन आमा ! जो सिँगान पोतिएर, सुकेर अनी कट्कटिएर टाटेपाटे भएको मेरो बिक्रित अनुहारपनी निर्निमेष हेरि रहन्थ्यौ र अपूर्ब ममत्वले च्वाँक्क म्वाइ खान्थ्यौ । थाहाछ आमा ! यहाँत सडकमा म लख्रक-लख्रक लाचार पाइला चालिरहेको बेला चिल्लो गाडीमा हुइँकिने खस्रा मनहरु सङ्गै बेलाइते कुकुरले मलाई अपमानित हेराइ फाल्दै, कताहो कता बत्तिन्छ । यस्तो कठोर दुनियाँमा म कसरी रम्नु र किन तिमीलाई ढाँट्नु कि मघर आउँछु भन्दै र केवल भन्दै अनी नआउंदै ।

अस्ती बल्ल-बल्ल नेटवर्क टिपेको बेला भाग्यबस् लामो भलाकुसारी हुँदा तिमी ठस्कियौ फेरी पनि ढँटुवा भन्दै । त्याँको अग्ला चुच्चाघरले तानेर राख्यो तंलाई भन्यौ । त्यसो होइन आमा ! यि चुच्चा घरले मलाई तान्ने होइन किन्तु घोच्छन् मेरो स्वाभिमानी छातीमा तिखा सङ्गीन बनेर । यि अग्ला घरले केवल मेरो सगरमाथालाई खिस्याउँछन् । मैले घर नआउनलाई ढाँटेको होइन आमातिमी किन बुझ्दिनौ ?।

ओहो ! कतिबेर यसरी यो निर्जिब भित्तो हेरेर बर्बराएछु आमा संग । बरा !! किक्लिक्क बाडुली लाग्यो होला आमालाई । “भुत्तेले सम्झ्यो क्यारे !” भनिहोलिन् ।

…….तिम्लाई धेरै अरुकुरा ढाँटेकोछु । अफिसमा झाडुलाउने मात्रै हो, काम सजिलो छ भनेर सत्य लुकाएकोछु । नौ तल्ला जमिनमुनीको अंध्यारो कुनोबाट बोराका बोरा सामान बोकेर माथि ल्याउनुपर्छ । ८ घण्टा भनेर १३ घण्टा काममा दलाउँछ मदिसेले । कती रात त नसुतेरै बित्छ ‘पिँडुलाको मासु फर्केर’ । तर केगर्नु नगरि सुखै छैन । दिनभरी बसेर चम्चा पुछ्ने कामगरें, दिनैभरी गंगटो केलाउने काम गरेँ, ओहो ! त्यो बेला काम सजिलो भएपनी कस्तो घिन लागेको, मेरो त आन्द्राभुंडीनै बाहिर आउँला जस्तो उल्टी भयो र बरु यही बोरा बोक्ने काम गर्दैछु । तर तिम्लाई भन्यो भने रोएरै मर्छ्यौ । आको रिण नतिरी म कसरी फिर्नु । तिमीलाई फकाउन । उसोर ढाँट्नै परेको छ तर घर नआउनलाई होइन । त्यस बेलाको युरिया मलको प्लास्टिक च्यातेको सट्टा अब त्यो चुहिने छानो र पाली टिनले नै छाएर तिम्रो चाउरे अनुहार तन्किंदै हाँसेको हेर्न चाहन्छु आमा ! जब यहाँ झरी पर्छ मेरो आँखा यसरी बर्सिन्छ,, तिमी छेउमा हुँदिहौ त बग्थ्यौ यो भेलमा । अहँ त्यसो होइन तिमीले यो भेल बग्नै दिन्नथ्यौ । टालटुल पारेको फरियाको छेउले भएपनी यो भेललाई रोक्थ्यौ। तर ,,, तर अहिले रोकिने नामै लिंदैन……….।

ओहो ! म, फेरी पो मनोबादमा लागेछु । घडीको सुइले रातको १ टेकेछ । यही ल्याप्टप पनि नहुंदो हो त के गरी बिताउँदो हुँ यो नित्तान्त एकाँकी पलहरु ! पैसो आएकै छैन भन्दै आमालाई ढाँटेर यो एउटा खबटो किनेर मलाईत निकै राहत भएको छ । ति दिनमा यस्तै झरिमा बे-पर्बाह भिज्दै-भिज्दै आमाले पढाएले खाएको प्रतिफल सिर्फ यही ल्याप्टपमा भावनाका दुइचार कुरा कोर्ने काम त आएकोछ अहिले ! के काम लाग्यो मेरो त्यो कलेजको सर्टिफिकेट जो सावाँ अक्षर नचिन्ने मेरी आमाले हजार बार छातीमा टांस्दै म्वाइ खाएकी थिइन् । जबजब कुइन्टलका बोराले मलाई घ्याच्छ थिच्छन मलाई त्यो सर्टिफिकेटको हलुको पन् सँग नमिठो रिस उठ्छ । खैर, त्यसको पो के गल्ती थियो र ? ।  उफ्फ्फ, जिन्दगीको हिसाब किताब कहँनिर मिलेन । थर्मसमा पनि सेलाउनै लागिसकेको कालो चिया तुर्क्याउंछु ह्यान्डिल फुटेको कपमा। कती बेस्वाद हो चिया पनि ! ठ्याक्कै मेरै जिन्दगी जस्तो ।

झरी अलिक थामिएछ, मेरो पो ध्यानजती मनोलापमा गएछ । कर्कस मेघको गर्जनले तर्सिँदा हातको कप झन्डै खसेको । एउटा लामो उच्छ्वास फ्याँक्दै झ्यालको सानो चिर्कटो बाट तल डाउन टाउन भ्याली नियाल्छु । हावाको एक राक्षसी झोँकाले मलाई भित्रै दबाउन धकेल्छ । म अटेर गर्दै झ्याल तिर ठेस्सिन्छु । रात तन्किँदैछ भोलीको उज्यालो बिहानी लिन । म घडी हेर्छु जिन्दगीको पात्रो पल्टाउन । यो रातको गन्तब्य भोलीको उज्यालो हो रत सुलुत्त चिप्लिन खोज्दैछ । मके लिन कता तन्किउँ । कता चिप्लिउँ । जानत एकै तिर मन छ त्यही मेरो छानो चुहिने कटेरो तिर तर आमाको आँखामा म अरु भेल कसरी हेरुँ फेरी यस्तै दर्किने झरिमा भिजिने सन्त्रासङ्गै !

म रात संग असाध्यै डराउने मान्छे, कती पटक कट्टुमै सुसु छोडेको सम्झना छ रातको डरमा । अहिले मेरो रात संगको त्यो डर हराएको छ । आमा भन्ने गर्थिन ” उमेर सङ्गै बुद्दी आउंछ अनी डर भाग्छ । ” बुद्दीत आयो कि आएन तर डर भने भाग्यो । यती सम्मकी अहिलेत मेरो प्रिय समय र साथीनै यही नीरव रात भएको छ । उमेर सङ्गै बुद्दी आए पनी नआए पनी व्यबहारले गाँजेर समस्याहरुले अर्जाप्दा, अभाबले स्थान लिँदो रहेछ डरको सट्टा शायद त्यसैले उमेरको छिप्पट सङ्गै डर बसाई सर्दोरहेछ । अहिलेत मलाई रात सबसे प्यारो लाग्छ । ओहो ! कस्तो एकतमासको समय ! बतासको मनोमानी निकै भयो । अलिअली लोलाएको आँखाको निँद छिरलिसकेको छ उत्ताउलो बतासले यतिबेला । झ्यालको फक्लेटो बन्द गर्छु । र, थचक्क बस्छु कुइँक्क गर्ने कुर्सिमा उही खबटो ल्यापटपको अघिल्तिर लामो सुस्केरा, उसैको अनुहारमा फ्याँक्छु । अब यही खल्बलिएको मनको टिका-टिप्पणी उतार्छु ल्यापटपको छातीमा । रात बित्दैन सजिलै । दिन उसै, अनन्त लामो लाग्छ । 
उफ्फ ! यहाँ म मनोलाप अब लेख्छु खर्खरी र त्यसले रुपधारण् गर्नेछ एउटा अब्बल कबिताको, यात मन छुने कथाको । भोली बिहान सम्म सबैलाई ट्याग गरिसक्नेछु र ब्यग्र साहित्यानुरागीहरुले पढ्नेछन् । कमेन्टगर्नेछन् अनी दिनेछन मलाई अमुल्य उपमा, एक उदाउँदो साहित्यकारको । मलाई थाहाछैन यो साहित्यनै हो ? यामेरो गरीब जिन्दगीको दरिद्र दैनिकी । तर लेख्दैछु उही आत्मालाप यो झरिले रुझाएको मनको अतित सम्झना अनी उही पुरा नभएको वाचा, ” आमा ! अबको बर्खा, पहिल्यै म फिर्नेछु घर र यस पाली अवस्य छानोमा टिन लगाउनेछु । अब तिमीलाई रुझ्न दिनेछैन म, बर्खा पहिल्यै घरफिर्नेछु । “

सम्पन्नताको विश्वव्यापी सूचकाङ्कमा नेपालको स्थान विगत तीन वर्षमा लगतार खस्कँदै गएको तथ्याङ्क सार्वजनिक भएको छ। लेगाटम इन्स्टिच्युटले वर्षेनी निकाल्ने यस्तो सम्पन्नताको सूचिमा विश्वका १४२ देश मध्ये नेपाल यो वर्ष १०८ औँ नम्बरमा परेको हो। 

अर्थतन्त्र, शिक्षा, सुशासन, स्वास्थ्य, व्यक्तिगत स्वतन्त्रता, सुरक्षा जस्ता विषयलाई आधार बनाएर बनाइएको सूचिमा यो वर्ष पहिलो पटक अमेरिका टप टेनबाटै बाहिरिएको छ।नेपाल यो वर्ष अघिल्लो वर्षभन्दा १५ अङ्कले खस्किएर १०८ मा पुगेको हो। परार नेपाल ९१ मा थियो भने सन् २००९ मा ८८ औँ नम्बरमा। नेपालभन्दा ५ अङ्कमाथि बंगलादेश रहेको छ भने त्योभन्दा दुई स्थानमाथि भारत रहेको छ। नेपालभन्दा मुनि अधिकांश अफ्रिकी राष्ट्र छन्। दक्षिण एसियाली देश पाकिस्तानको स्थान नेपालभन्दा निकै मुनि १३२ मा छ। त्यसैगरी अफगानिस्तान उल्टोबाट तेस्रो (१४० औँ) छ।


सम्पन्नताको सूचिमा स्क्यान्डिनेभिएन देशहरु शीर्ष स्थानमा छ। नर्वे पहिलो,डेनमार्क दोस्रो र स्वीडेन तेस्रो नम्बरमा छ। अस्ट्रेलिया चौथोमा छ भने न्युजिल्यान्ड पाँचौँमा छ।

क्यानाडा छैटौँमा छ भने फिनल्यान्ड सातौँ, नेदरल्यान्ड आठौँ, स्विट्जरल्यान्ड नवौँ र आयरल्यान्ड दशौँमा छ।
अमेरिका १२ औँमा छ भने बेलायत १३ औँ। अर्थतन्त्रमा त अमेरिकाको झन् बिजोग छ। अमेरिका अर्थतन्त्रमात्रैमा २० औँ स्थानमा छ। यो एसिया र युरोपका देशहरुभन्दा धेरै पछाडि हो। सेफ्टी एन्ड सेक्युरिटीमा पनि अमेरिका २७ औँ नम्बरमा छ।

नेपाल उद्यमशीलता र अवसरमा निकै कमजोर छ। बाँकी विधामा भने नेपाल मिड लो स्टायटसमा छ। नेपाल (९६) ले सेफ्टी एन्ड सेक्युरिटीमा भारत (११४)लाई जितेको छ। त्यसैगरी शिक्षामा पनि नेपालले भारतलाई ७ अङ्कले जितेको छ भने स्वास्थ्यमा ६ अङ्कले।

Congratulations Felix Baumgartner

Congratulations to Felix Baumgartner for breaking the record for the highest and fastest ever skydive by jumping out of a balloon 128,000ft.

He was in freefall for four minutes and 22 seconds, with the watching world holding their breath before he touched back down to earth with infinite grace.

The most difficult part of these type of challenges is often getting the balloon off the ground, and ensuring everything was prepared thoroughly and correctly. The actual act is the fun part! Well done to all of his team, he could not have done it alone.

Great that Joe Kittinger, the previous highest, farthest and longest freefall record holder was on hand to see Baumgartner's achievement too.

One man's jump took seven years of preparation - and it was worth it. Now looking forward even more to our own space adventures with Virgin Galactic. Watch this space!

Dashain

	The pleasant post-monsoon period when the sky is clearest, the air is cleanest and the rice is ready for harvesting , the Nepalese people indulge in the biggest festival of the year, Dashain. Dashain is the longest and the most auspicious festival in the Nepalese annual calendar, celebrated by Nepalese of all caste and creed throughout the country. The fifteen days of celebration occurs during the bright lunar fortnight ending on the day of the full moon. Thorough out the kingdom of Nepal the goddess Durga in all her manifestations are worshiped with innumerable pujas, abundant offerings and thousands of animal sacrifices for the ritual holy bathing, thus drenching the goddess for days in blood. The first day of Dasain is called Ghatasthapana, which means establishing of the holy water vessel, which represents the goddess Durga. Barley seeds are planted in it. The seventh day or Phulapati is the offering of flowers and leaves, carried by runners from Gorkha the ancestral home of the Shah Kings of Nepal, and received by the king in Kathmandu. The eighth day is called the 'Maha Asthami'. The fervour of worship and sacrifice to Durga and Kali increases. On this day many orthodox Hindus will be fasting. Sacrifices are held in almost every house through out the day. The night of the eighth day is called 'Kal Ratri', the dark night. Hundreds of goats, sheep and buffaloes are sacrificed at the mother goddess temples. In the darkness of the night Durga temples, army barracks, and old palaces all over Nepal hold sacrifices for the mother goddess   The tenth day is the 'Dashami'. On this day we take tika and jamara from the elders and receive their blessing.people visit their elder's home and get tika from them while younger ones come to the home to receive blessing from elders. The importance of Dasain also lies in the fact that on this day family members from far off and distant relatives come for a visit as well as to receive tika from the head of the family. This function continues for four days. Dashain is big in Nepal mainly for the followings : Holidays - Rest and Relaxation for nearly 10 days! This is the longest festival in Nepal. It allows one to travel and be with family and friends for upto a week or more. Shopping - Clothes for wife, children, dad, mum, and all except you! In spite of extreme hardship, during the festival season, Nepalese families manage to shop if not for all, but at least for the children. Clothes are the most selling item during the season. Those who could not afford to wear even a single new cloth in the entire year will now attempt! Dashain Bonus - Nepali Government gives Bonus to government workers as a Dashain bonus (Usually equals to one's monthly salary). Some private companies such as Banks do the same. Farmers earn their bonus by selling their highly demanded agriculture and live-stock products in return for a good cash Eating - Meat Products, Sweets, Fruits, and meat products again!. Dashain's most popular cuisine is meat, and in popularity order are goat meat, sheep, buffalo, duck, and chicken. Meat is expensive and poor to middle class families usually can not afford it. So dashain is the time of eating lots of meat. Usually animals are bought live from the animal market such as Kalanki Bazaar, Bag Bazaar, and sacrificed at home or in temples. At home, the whole family is involved in cutting and preparing the meat which usually lasts for 2 to 3 day's of feast. But some family prefer to buy the meat already prepared by Butchers Visiting - Meet your Family and Friends near and far Dashain is also about forgiveness, kindness and respect, all of which prevails so broken families come together. Cities suddenly seems to empty itself, more people returning back in villages or terai (lower, flat region of Nepal) than that of people joining families in cities. During this season, city rushes to book tickets, bus or plane! Kites - Children love the season also for flying Kites If you visit Kathmandu or any other city during this season, the day-sky is filled with colorful kites like shinning stars in the night! Tika and Love - Receiving and Giving Tika and Respect. Getting a tika from an older person in your family or from relatives or from anyone is a blessing. Dashain tika begins from the oldest person in your family giving tika to the youngest then the second youngest in the family and so on. Faith, hope, inspiration and blessings, all come alive in Dashain. Money Notes - stacks of notes to give! Receive a tika and offer money notes as an appreciation. Popular Dashain notes are Rupees 2, 5, 10, and Rupees 25. Everybody tries to exchange for smaller and new notes, so banks are usually busy during the season. Cleaning - Clean and decorate homes Walls get a new coat of paints, roads are cleaned better than before, temples are decorated with lights, villagers join together to clean and build new trails, paint their homes using red-colored mud. People clean themselves mentally too by visiting various temples and worshiping during the festival. Puja - Worshiping God for Peace and Prosperity Various pujas are performed from beginning to the end of Dashain. Gambling - although not legal in Nepal, but it's played! Playing cards are popular during Dashain. Usually family members play cards with each-other or with friends for money. Fairs and Celebration - ride, eat, play games, be with friends! Village children ride on Ferris wheels, and swings built using traditional methods (ropes made from tough grass, bamboo sticks and wood). Commercial fairs and celebration events are organized in cities.
