More Than Enough

The first lily of June opens its red mouth.

All over the sand road where we walk

multiflora rose climbs trees cascading

white or pink blossoms, simple, intense

the scene drifting like colored mist.

The arrowhead is spreading its creamy

clumps of flower and the blackberries

are blooming in the thickets. Season of

joy for the bee. The green will never

again be so green, so purely and lushly

new, grass lifting its wheaty seedheads

into the wind. Rich fresh wine

of June, we stagger into you smeared

with pollen, overcome as the turtle

laying her eggs in roadside sand.

Nepalese in Photography- Nepal's First Photography Magazine

ABOUT THE PROJECT

Nepalese in Photography is a magazine conceptualized by group of youngsters after realizing Nepal does not have a photography magazine that focuses on trends, styles and different topics regarding photography. After starting Nepalese in Photography group in Facebook in 2007, we saw Nepali youth -- living in Nepal and abroad, are very much interested in photography and have been involved in it as a professional or as their passion. Our next move was to start a magazine that will focus on everything related to photography.

As soon as the idea was floated many interested in the project quit their job as journalists and designers in different organizations to come together and work on something that was closer to their heart. And it's not only the youth of Nepal but also some friends and Facebook page members from Australia are interested in the project and are getting involved in this magazine to make it a complete photography magazine.

Nepalese in Photography will not only cover various aspects of photography, but also will be a perfect platform to encourage and guide amateur photographers into the world of photography. As it is a new and one of its kind projects, it might take us a while to capture the market and bring in advertisement for our magazine. So for couple of months, we will be working without pay check, foundation grants, advisory boards or independently wealthy vanity investors—for now, at least.

To start a magazine is not easy but with passion towards writing and photography, brought together group of enthusiastic co founder, editors, reporters and photographers to give up their well paying salary and start working for this project. For next few months we will be focusing on bringing out a quality magazine with original articles, feature writings, interviews, and breath taking photo features.

We’re in the process of recruiting a diverse team of passionate contributors.

PEOPLE BEHIND IT

Abhilasha Subba (Editor)

Worked for the national daily, The Himalayan Times, from 2006 to 2012. Started as trainee journalist in 2006 and later promoted to the post of Senior Sub Editor in 2010. Was part of TGIF (weekly weekend supplementary of The Himalayan Times) and features department that looks after the variety section, which covers lifestyle, feature stories and entertainment. From August 2011 till August 2012 headed TGIF as department head.

Alok Thapa (Senior Feature Writer)

Has been working as a radio presenter at Hits FM 91.2 for almost 10 years.Worked as a reporter/writer at CyberSansar.com from 2009-2011. Worked a correspondent for Republica national daily. Currently a senior feature writer at Pagoda Labs Pvt. LTD.

Supriya Pradhan (Reporter/Writer)

Has been working as a radio presenter at Hits FM 91.2 since 2006. Worked as a reporter/writer at Cybersansar.com from 2009-2011.Worked as a sub-editor for The Himalayan Times – TGIF.Currently working as reporter/writer at Pagoda Labs PVT. LTD.

The money we're raising on Indiegogo will go to start-up costs. Our biggest costs are design and printing, but there are several smaller costs: Branding, websites, postage and packaging expenses.  The money will go into the printing of the first and second issue of the magazine and towards the development of a website Nepalese in Photography           

Explosions at Boston Marathon finish line

BOSTON - Two bombs exploded at the venerable Boston Marathon on Monday, killing two people, injuring about 100 others and rattling nerves around the nation, authorities said.

The blasts occurred in rapid succession as thousands of runners were nearing the finish line and sent scores of them scrambling for cover. Video footage showed an explosion off to the side, with some runners toppling over from the concussion. Smoke billowed into the air, and photos of the chaotic scene showed a sidewalk slicked with blood.

The explosions, occurring on the Patriot’s Day holiday that commemorates the Revolutionary War battles of Lexington and Concord, were as shocking in their symbolism as in their force. The Boston Marathon is a highly prestigious race and is as much a symbol of Boston as Fenway Park.

Two federal law enforcement officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed that the blasts were caused by explosive devices. One of the dead, according to one official, was an 8-year-old.

The repercussions extended from Massachusetts
to Washington, where President Obama was briefed by top officials, the White House increased security, and the Justice Department and FBI mobilized to fully investigate what had happened.

In a brief appearance at the White House shortly after 6 p.m., Obama expressed sympathy for the victims of the blasts and said all the necessary resources of the federal government would be assigned to assist Boston officials in determining the cause of the explosions.

“We still do not know who did this or why, and people shouldn’t jump to conclusions before we have all the facts,” Obama said. “But make no mistake — we will get to the bottom of this.”

A White House official called the explosions an “act of terror,” saying authorities have much to learn about who was behind it.

“Any event with multiple explosive devices — as this appears to be — is clearly an act of terror, and will be approached as an act of terror,” the official said, speaking on condition of anonymity. “However, we don’t yet know who carried out this attack, and a thorough investigation will have to determine whether it was planned and carried out by a terrorist group, foreign or domestic.”

Initial reports of another explosion at the John F. Kennedy Library in Boston turned out to be an unrelated fire. Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick urged people to “stay out of crowds” as they made their way home.

The explosions ripped into an idyllic afternoon finish for the marathon. The first men had passed the finish line 2 hours and 10 minutes after the staggered start, and the first women crossed just 16 minutes later. But a bulge of slower runners grappling with a four-hour run time were converging on the race’s end at 2:50 p.m.

The first blast sent a quick plume of smoke two stories high. Runners nearby stopped in their tracks, confused and unsure. After a few seconds later, a second explosion happened a half-block away, with a deep boom caught on television cameras.

Emergency personnel rushed to the area, and the street was quickly sealed off.
